Chapter 1
The Human Religion
What is the religion of man? Is it just bookish knowledge or a collection of rituals? Or is there an eternal thirst at its root—the thirst to know oneself and creation? Rabindranath Tagore tried to find answers to these questions in his book 'The Religion of Man'.
He says, man's truth is not bound within his limits. He constantly wants to surpass himself. This journey towards the infinite is the religion of man. Rising above narrowness, communalism, and petty interests to unite with the universal man is true religion.
"He who sees himself in all men and all men in himself, sees the truth."
The religion of man is the religion of love. Love connects people to one another. Without love, society, state, and civilization—all become meaningless. So we should strive for the welfare of people through love and service.
