What is the result of arguing with a fool?
One day, a donkey said to a tiger,
“Grass is blue!”
The tiger replied,
“No, grass is green!”
Soon, their discussion turned into a heated argument. Unable to agree, they went to the king of the jungle—the lion—for judgment.
Even before reaching the royal court, the donkey began braying loudly,
“Your Majesty, please tell us— isn’t grass blue?”
The lion replied calmly,
“Yes, grass is blue.”
The donkey rushed forward happily and said,
“See! The tiger refuses to accept it, argues with me, and keeps bothering me. Please punish him!”
The lion then announced,
“The tiger is sentenced to five years of silence.”
The donkey jumped with joy and left, shouting,
“Grass is blue! Grass is blue!”
The tiger accepted the punishment, but asked the lion,
“Your Majesty, why did you punish me when grass is clearly green?”
The lion replied,
“Yes, grass is green.”
The tiger asked again,
“Then why did you punish me?”
The lion answered,
“Your punishment has nothing to do with whether grass is green or blue. You were punished because a brave and intelligent animal like you wasted your time arguing with a donkey—and then wasted my time by bringing such a foolish matter to me.”
Moral of the story:
Never argue with a fool.
